Peacefulness Finds Me

Peacefulness Finds Me holds a place that still lives in my memory, even though the place itself has changed. I used to live near this view, and there was something about it that always brought me a sense of calmness. The palms, the water, the open path and the quiet bench felt like a little escape from everything else. Over time, the area changed, but my love for it never changed. When I painted this piece, I was painting more than a landscape, I was painting a memory of what that place felt like to me. A place to breathe, sit quietly and allow the noises of life to fall away for a little while.

The soft blues, pinks, lavender and gold in the sky bring that memory back to life, while the path leading toward the water feels almost like an invitation to step inside and stay awhile. I originally called this painting Peacefulness, because that was exactly what the place represented to me. As time passed, the title became something more personal: Peacefulness Finds Me. The place may have changed, but the feelings remain. Sometimes peace isn’t somewhere we return to physically, but more about revisiting the peacefulness found within our memories.
